Moisture-Guard Dehumidification
Humidity, not temperature, is the true cause of destructive forces such as mites, molds, mildew, rust, paper rot, and wood degradation. To protect valuables made from wood, metal, fabric, paper, and electronics, take advantage of MOISTURE-GUARD humidity control technology.
MITES
The presence of mites is closely associated with the presence of mold - where there is mold to feed on, mites will thrive. Mold may only germinate and grow in humid environments, and therefore, so will mites.
Dust mites are a principal cause of respiratory allergies. These microorganisms easily become airborne and pass in and out of the lungs. A person’s allergic reaction to mites depends on how sensitive his or her lungs are to them, and of course, how many mites are present in the air.
Moisture-Guard storage spaces fight mites by fighting mold. Your storage space will be maintained at a low relative humidity, making it difficult for mold to grow and mites to feed.
Consider a Moisture Guard space for items such as bedding, mattresses, bathroom linens and upholstered furniture.
MOLDS
Molds germinate and grow in the presence of moisture. As relative humidity increases, mold growth escalates.
Some molds, especially Black Mold, have been linked to chronic lung infections, allergies and other unexplained illnesses. Though it is not known how Black Mold causes these problems, the likelihood of these difficulties increases as mold volume increases. If you encounter Black Mold, isolate the area and call a professional to evaluate it.
Mold may grow on virtually any surface. The acid that molds produce is destructive to wood, fabric, leather, and paper.
MILDEW
Mildew is a microorganism that grows quickly in humid environments. Though not dangerous, it can damage fabric, wood and paper over time. Mildew also gives off an unpleasant odor. Like molds, mildew cannot grow in a low humidity environment.
Consider Moisture-Guard to help protect your linens, bedding, mattresses, clothing, and upholstered furniture.
RUST
The most obvious effect humidity has is rust. Metals need moisture to oxidize and corrode. As relative humidity increases, the rate of corrosion increases dramatically - even a 10% rise in humidity may double the rate of corrosion.
Consider Moisture-Guard for older and precious metals like iron, copper, steel that is not galvanized, brass, and nickel.
PAPER ROT
If you’ve ever discovered an old, wrinkly newspaper in your attic, you’ve seen the damage that humidity can do to paper. Moisture in the air penetrates paper, causing it to swell and contract unpredictably. Eventually the moisture will weaken the paper and cause it to disintegrate.
Moisture-Guard is an excellent way to protect office records and other valuable paper in storage.
WOOD DEGRADATION
High humidity can cause wood to swell and warp. This is particularly dangerous to older furniture and untreated wood. Mold and mildew can stain and degrade wood over time.
Consider Moisture-Guard if you are storing fine furniture or unfinished wood products.
